Gigabit router that is highly configurable and somehow less than $60
I'm a huge fan of Ubiquiti for their routers and APs.I had bought the same router from BHphoto last year but an electrical storm fried that router and now I had purchase the same one from Amazon. It arrived super quickly and it took me 15 minutes to configure it to my liking. But please note, this is NOT a WiFi router, it must be used with APs (doesn't have to be Ubiquiti devices.) You cannot connect to it through WiFi, only through an Ethernet cable. Your network layout could look like this: Your ISP>Modem>This Ubiquiti router>Switch>APs/WiFi router configured in AP mode/Mesh layout in your house.Summary: This is for the home networking enthusiast because you can customize/configure a home VPN/firewall rules/NAT/load balancing/dual WAN config/multiple VLANs. Of course, if this doesn't interest you, it has an extremely simple basic wizard setup for you. I highly recommend this router as Ubiquiti in general is reliable, speeds are great, budget friendly and compact in your network closet.Pros:-Compact, fits easily anywhere-Budget friendly at under $60-Compared to other devices like Linksys/Cisco, the UI is easy to use. Not as simple as Netgear but Netgear's devices are pretty limited in features compared to Ubiquiti-Highly configurable with a slew of featuresCons:-Instructions are very barebones, all that comes in the box is the router, the ac adapter and a piece of paper telling you to go to this website/QR code. If you don't have internet, that's pretty hard right? For a sample set-up, this is what I would recommend if you have your own modem and network switches.First, connect your laptop to the eth0 port on this router. Go to https://192.168.1.1 and then it should bring you to the UI in which you enter your admin/password as ubnt/ubnt. Don't do the basic wizard if you have many network switches.Second in the Wizards tab, choose WAN+2LAN setup (if you want a traditional 1 subnet layout in which the other eth ports on this router are bridged and act as 1 subnet), choose WAN+2LAN2 if you want 2 subnets with eth1/2 are a subnet and eth3/4 are another subnet.Third, you'll have to reboot the router. At this time, you'll want to plug the Ethernet cable from your modem into eth0 (internet connection) and then connect your laptop to eth1. Log back into 192.168.1.1 and you should already have an internet connection. If you don't, check your DNS settings on the router, it's in the system tab underneath. Set it to 8.8.8.8 if you wan to use Google's DNS servers. The router will also forward this to all other network devices and your PCs/mobile devices.
